No XBOX Series X exclusives for the Launch Period

Microsoft head Phil Spencer surprised everyone by revealing the first look of the next generation XBOX game console, titled Series X at The Game Awards show last month. So far, we have confirmation on both PS5 and XBOX Series X launching Holiday 2020.

It is customary for new game consoles to launch with some exclusives to ramp up interest and make a solid demand in the market. However, it seems that Microsoft is taking a different approach with the ninth generation of consoles. Matt Booty, the head of Microsoft Game Studios, made the comment to MCV recently that for the first year of two, all of Microsoft first-party games will remain cross-gen with the XBOX One (OG XBOX One, XBOX One S, and One X). He continued – “As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices. We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content.”

This new announcement is very much in line with the direction that XBOX seems to be taking since past two years, which is to make its game available to the highest number of players. This is apparent from the launch of XBOX Game Pass, XBOX Games coming to Steam on PC, and release of some XBOX first party games on Nintendo Switch.
